What's For Lunch?
While it is generally accepted to be poor manners to chew with your mouth open, we think an exception should be made in the case of the Humpback Whale. These 45-50 foot animals eat about a ton a day, and today one of our boats was lucky enough catch them mid-meal. While a bit unorthodox (the Humpback comes up to the surface with a wide open mouth, taking in a huge amount of water and then pushing it through their strainer-like baleen plates to trap the small fish) it is hard not to gape at the sight of such a unique phenomenon up close. Whether it's watching a Bald Eagle swoop dive to catch its lunch, or seeing a puffin dive several hundred feet and to get its dinner, come and see what the wildlife is having for lunch. And don't worry; we've got plenty of knives and forks for you to use during your onboard meals!
Back For More:
Congratulations to Seward local hero Cedar Bourgeois for winning her fifth straight Mount Marathon race! Quite a feat! A special shout out also goes to Kenai Fjords Tours employee Bethany Haynie who finished the grueling race for the second straight year, and improved on her time from last year. Great job to all of the runners! Whether it was the runners who wanted to take on the mountain again, or the spectators who wanted to see if the competitors could beat the records from previous years, the weekend proved that some things can be just as good or better on the second (or fifth) try. For more proof of that, why not come out on another cruise with us and see firsthand that races aren't the only things worth repeating.
